September Look Back

I did this last month, I am doing it this month and likely, will do it next month. But time is sprinting away from me and this helps me feel better because it reminds me that I did in fact DO something over the last 30 days. So, let's look back over September, shall we?

Even though it was only a few days ago, I think this little bee is the sweetest.
end of summer

It's kinda crazy how forever ago the beginning of the month feels while simultaneously feeling like yesterday. How does that work?
Anyways, who else is EXCITED for October? Because I am excited! Reading all of your blogs just gets better and better as holiday transitions start happening and you post cute, festive things :)

Sweetness and Cheerios

Eeep! These sweet little Geckos are so precious it leaves me speechless.
It must be the feeling I see on people's faces as they play with puppies.

color calls

Normally, bopping around a cemetery isn't something I do. Not because I find them creepy, because they certainly aren't, but because it feels a bit disrespectful. However, driving down the road I couldn't help but notice the gorgeous tippy-top of a massive Maple tree. The color called to me. So then I found myself taking pictures of the tree and peeking around and generally enjoying life in this quiet spot in the middle of the city.

Today, I'm over at Arielle's blog, Humble Pie Vintage, sharing about the close-up, detail posts I do every so often. You should probably take a peek!

Quote # 34

Normally I don't say anything about the quotes posted, I just let them speak for them self, but I pulled this from a spoken word clip Caleisha posted. It's called the Hardest Place and is worth listening to.

Take Tuesday: Hearts

This week's Take Tuesday heart theme was perfect because Keith was away on a manly man weekend and it made me realize just how incredibly important he is to me. Let's just say all the absence made my heart fonder than it normally is and when he walked through the door last night it all kind of exploded all over him. Seriously though, I am blessed. I am also glad he is home :)
** now that I think about it, hearts would be perfect next Tuesday, as it will be our 2 year anniversary! **

Next week's theme - October 2 - is water.
If you'd like to see the entire list of themes so you can work ahead, check it out

This little fellow wasn't really buzzing. More like perching. And antennae wiggling.
Either way, still charming.

Take Tuesday Theme List

Per request of a few of my favorite, lovely ladies, I complied the complete list of Take Tuesday themes right next to the date they will be posted. My suggestion: Save this image to your desktop so you see it every day and are reminded to link up on [every] Tuesday, making Shakti very happy.

If you are clueless as to what I'm talking about, let me fill you in! Take Tuesday is a weekly photo series between Shakti Dove and Nicole Marie, where we pick a theme and snap away. If you have pictures that fit the week's theme feel free to join the linkup!

I'm really sorry this hasn't been posted sooner. Due to some technical challenges, there was a teensy bit of trouble the last couple weeks and I wanted to make sure this series was actually going to happen before I bombarded you with it any more of it.  Fortunately, hopefully, all the kinks have been ironed out and it will be smooth sailing from now on. Wouldn't that be most wonderful?

PS - I had THE weirdest thing happen earlier. The tip of my tongue got all ticklish. Ticklish. I could barely eat. What does that even mean!?!

A bit ago I mentioned that I ordered a pair of glasses online. Remember that?
Well, they came and I am quite satisfied! Adjusting to this new (larger) frame size took more time than I anticipated but it is no longer startling to look in the mirror. Now it's actually startling to put on my old, smaller glasses that I got re-lensed. I think my face looks kinda naked. Anyways, I really love that these are chunky but aren't too overwhelming since they are clear.  Just right if you ask me :)

About my new eyes:
I ordered my red and clear glasses (sorry, couldn't find the proper name) from Zenni Optical, which came highly recommended by a friend, and I can see why! They are ultra affordable. Ultra, as in my frames cost $15.95 - Yes, $15.95. I spent a whopping $4.95 on anti-reflective coating, and the rest on shipping. All together my order cost $25.85. DID YOU CATCH THAT!? Glasses for under 30 buckaroos!

If you are so curious, they also have a ton of different lens options: tinting, range quality, material, special name it, they can do it, although depending on what you order your lenses might not be of the free variety.

Also in the newness category: lipstick! I was feeling a bit bored, and normally when that feeling comes about I chop my hair, but wanting to keep it long I had to come up with an alternate boredom buster. Hello, red lips. Or should I say, Hello, Snow White? ;)

It's been one of those weeks were doodling has become an escape. A few moments snatched for myself.
I love it when life is full, but sometimes it seems hard to catch my breath.

I have no idea why I signed it. What kind of weirdee signs doodles?

Take Tuesday: Seeing Spots

When Nicole and I decided on this week's theme, Seeing Spots, I immediately started to ponder what polka dotted cuteness to photograph. But my spots didn't come in quite the form I expected them to. While out on a walk I couldn't help but notice a group of bushes that were dotted with bright blips of color. I plucked a small branch then continued on. Then I came across another plant with pretty colored berries, which I plucked as well. After I picked my third stem it kinda dawned on me that all along the way I had been seeing spots, they were just more organic than I anticipated. I wish that realization had come sooner because I would have taken a pic of the berries on the bush and in the grass, but it just didn't happen.

This lovely little caterpillar also made himself known to me and when really looking at him I saw lots of little spots and dots! How perfect!

Have you been seeing spots lately? Because if so we would love to see them! Just submit your link below :)

Art Journal: Truth

So, I quite like looking at art journals other people make so I'm thinking that sharing some of my pages might become something that is in frequent rotation here on the blog. Any thoughts?

Anyways, this page scanned in a bit funny so let me do a bit of 'splaining...
The circle on the left page is actually a mirror with the orange circle glued on top. The white circle on the right page is actually a hole in the page that peeks through.
Most of my art journaling is fairly free-form, the page just morphs and takes shape as I start working and then once it is done I step back and put a passage, or phrase to it. On this particular page though, I started with the word "truth" and worked backwards.

To simplify the crazy thought and design process behind this page I basically drew inspiration from Proverbs 27:19 which says "Just as water mirrors your face, so your face mirrors your heart." (The Message) And the fact that truth is transparent, with nothing to hide.

AND, just in case you were wondering, I made the journal out of newspaper that I hand bound together and then painted.

Designing Procrastination

One of the ways I justify procrastination is by looking at graphically interesting things. I tell myself that it's OK to be dinking around online because I'm essentially just doing design style research for my next project. Totally a legitimate train of thought, yeah?

One such site I dink around on pretty frequently is Design By Humans. Love the tees you find there (even if I do only own one)! Right now, they have some pretty sweet sale items that are worth checking out...

Guess who gotst interviewed?

I gotst interviewed! You should check it out over yonder at Arielle's lovely blog, Humble Pie Vintage.
Apparently she was inspired by my Main Squeeze series (I've decided to call this that hehe) and she has started a Blogger Spotlight series! Let's just say that I'm honored to be the first in her limelight :)

If you would like, here are the links to the posts Arielle and I did "together" when she was my main squeezie back in July.

Awe and Wonder

You absolutely must watch this! It is so incredibly awe inspiring that a tear or two might
have trickled from my eyes.

Beyond awesome, yeah!?
Watching it made me sad that I've never had a flying dream while simultaneously making me supremely glad that God loves. You know how thoughts tangle together...

You know what is even more awesome? Watching this in a dark room on a large screen. Do it. It will make your heart fill with wonder.

Design work: Retro Movie Night Ticket Invitations

Has it ever been mentioned that I'm in school for graphic design? It's true! Right now, most of my projects are school related, but here is an invitation mailer I did for my church. I'm quite pleased with it if I do say so myself. The ticket is adorable, is it not?
In fact, if you like it so much you'd like to use it for your own event you totally can! Check it out in my Etsy shop.

I made a whole retro Movie Night package including labels, thank yous, etc. The whole process is just so. much. fun and it's so rewarding when it's all together.

PS - My name was not printed on the invite, but this is the internet and a girl's got to protect her goods, yeah?
PSS - If you are so curious, and would like to take a peak at some of my older, older work, go here.
