Randomness

I have been tagged by the lovely Erica to share 11 random things and answer some questions.
I'm also supposed to post a list of Rules and pass it along to others but, I think I shall skip that part.

11 Random Pieces of Trivia (about me, of course)
1. I loathe tomatoes
2. Sometimes I still use my fingers to do math
3.  In the summer I live on Edy's coconut bars and Breyers fruit popsicle
4.  I love the smell of tire stores. MMM rubber!
5.  If kiwi birds made acceptable pets I would definitely have one. They are so precious!
6.  polka dots are my favorite
7. I have a keen sense of smell. For the most part, it is a wonderful thing but it has it's down side.  For example, the smell of wet metal becomes overwhelming and makes me gag. The kitchen sink is metal so when doing dishes I use Dawn for the grease and a capfull of Fabuloso for the yummy sent.

8. ummmm... i'll fill out the rest when I think of something interesting to share
9.
10.
11.

Here are the 11 questions from Erica

1. What is one of your biggest pet peeves?
When people don't use their blinker. It makes me sooo angry. RAWR!

2. What is your favorite craft right now?
Right now? Hmmm... that's hard. I wouldn't say I have a favorite, just spurts of fondness that change frequently.

3. What is your favorite school memory?
I LOVED high school. I had a really, really great group of friends. One of my favorite memories involves a roadtrip to Michigan, my friend Dan and I on a fast snowmobile,  and a large stump.

4. What is your favorite season?
Fall. Hands down.

5. Where is your computer?
On my lap.

6. What is your favorite social network? Why?
I really liked MySpace because it was so customizable but that age has come and gone :(  Does YouTube count as a social network?

7. Make a sentence using : purple, unicorns, George Washington, snowflakes and horse radish.
Nah, I don't think I will. (I know, Party Pooper) I do like horse radish though. So good with roast beef.

8. What is the weather like right now?
Sunny and freezing

9. Do you have any pets?
No. Not right now.

10. Where is your favorite place to visit?
The Pacific NorthWest

11. What was your most embarrassing moment?
Oh Geez. I have a few. One that is safe to share on the internet goes like this....
This probably shouldn't be embarrassing but it is.

Amy and I were on a roadtrip and made a pit stop at Cape Cod.  Because we are landlocked Indiana girls we decided that it was very important that we take a dip in the ocean. Arriving at our chosen location we asked the check in guard if the beach was sandy or rocky.  He replied by saying, "Oh, the sand is really nice and fine."  Excellent, we thought, that's exactly what we want.
Then we get down to the beach and NOBODY is in the water. Odd.
But we toss our towels down and head towards the waves because we are brave and determined to frolic in the ocean. The water was freezing but whatever, our bodies were adjusting. Then, when I was about thigh deep something changed. Instead of sand under my feet it was rocks, SHARP rocks, and bits of shells. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE NICE, FINE SAND!?  I waded out a few more inches. At this moment, as I am tenderly tiptoeing in the freezing cold, waist deep ocean water I see something out of the corner of my eye. I look up just in time to be slammed by a massive wave. I can feel myself tumbling and somersault around, the sunglasses are ripped off my face, and a weird burning is happening to my back.  I'm thinking I will drown because I can't seem to get my head from under the waves and when I do manage to poke up my wet hair is strangling me.
When I finally get a grip on things I realize I am upside down, with my bum over my head in the air. Fortunately my bottoms had not come off although, my top did need some adjusting. I pop up looking for Amy (who I'm sure has been swept out to sea because she is so tiny) and see her standing up, looking a bit like a cat after a bath. We run to each other, making sure we are alive, and then realize that a small crowd of people have gathered on the shore, staring at us.  One old man is CLAPPING, like we put on a freaking show.
I am then told I am bleeding. Apparently the burning I felt was salt water in the many massive cuts I got from the "smooth sand"
So yeah, that was our 45 second adventure in the ocean. We left after that.

Stitching

This morning was spent spreading fabric all over the living room and doing a bit of sewing. Happy girl.

I've decided that the magnetic pin "cushion" pictured above is the greatest thing that ever happened to my feet. Before that thing, when pins fell they would disappear into the carpet only to be found later when they stabbed into my unsuspecting feet. PAINFUL.  Now I simply run it over the carpet and all wayward pins are caught. Very handy, indeed.
I think my Grandma B gave it to me (thanks Grandma!)

Home again, home again, jiggity-jog

This weekend was quite exciting.  I went to not one, but TWO concerts! AND ate some seriously delicious food (the good food is exciting because normally by the time tickets and gasoline are purchased I can only afford dollar menu delights). Thanks to dad for taking care of me!

Friday night was The Crystal Method.

It looks like the stage is empty but I promise it's not. They just wore black and put all the lights in front of the stage instead of on it.

Saturday evening consisted of Chevelle opened by Middle Class Rut.

I forgot how much I like Chevelle.
I LOVED their albums Wonder Whats Next and This Type of Thinking so I bought Vena Sera the day it was released. What a disappointment. I kinda dismissed the band at that point. Now they have two more albums that I haven't even listened too! How does this happen!? Lucky for me they played a ton of "old stuff".

I used to go to a show every couple weeks or so, but not anymore. I really miss doing that. Not just for the music but for the mini roadtrips with friends. Ahh, to be young and bill free.

I grin and have a happy heart

This is silly but I was really excited about these strawberries. I was out on a quick grocery run and found a pound for $1.50! Thats sooo cheap for the middle of February!  Paired with hot cocoa and they made the perfect mid-morning snack.  See that napkin? That's leftover from my wedding, which was a year and a half ago. Is that normal?
What to know a secret? I add flavored coffee creamer to hot chocolate to give it extra pizazz. Yum!

This love note made me so happy. Really, any love note makes me happy but this one was especially appreciated.  On Tuesdays and Thursdays I am literally at school from 8:30am to 5:15pm . So the other day when I was finally done and had trudged out to my car and found this tucked in my dash, I sat there grinning like a goon. My husband is the greatest.

What. Is. That? My thought exactly. I found that in my oven.
After much pondering I realized it was a taquito. That had been turned to charcoal. I don't have a good explanation as to why I giggled madly at that thing but I did.

Dark chocolate chips,in a pretty pattern, making their way to my mouth. Need I say more?

I am so blessed.

Kali Quail

Today is my sister's 21st birthday! Whoop Whoop!  :D

Happy birthday, Kali Quail!

You mean the world to me. It makes my heart so glad that I can say we are actually friends and not just siblings. Eeep!

In honor of this occasion, I rummaged around and found a few pics from when we were squeaks.

Do you see those monster chubby cheeks!?

Skipping forward 15+ years

Dollhouse

Maybe this is mean but it must be shared. I nearly snorted beverage out of my nose when I saw this....

The  heaps of junk! The cat turds and decayed animal! The smudges on the floor! Everything is so perfectly hoarder.   There is even a STORY to go with it.

Geez. I'm going to go clean my home now.

Funny tidbit - The first time Keith and I saw an episode of Hoarders was on our honeymoon. We were so shocked and appalled we couldn't tear our eyes away and ended up watching 5 episodes. Romantic, huh?

Bloglovin and Google +

So the news is that Google Friend Connect is going away for non Blogger blogs on March 1.
I think I'm one of the few people excited about this movement of consolidation.  Either way, you might want to take a moment to make sure all the blogs your following are going through a different site. It would be tragic to lose some during the transition!

bloglovin

ALSO, I posted my personal Google + link over on the right ----------------------->
I'm feeling a bit vulnerable doing this but I figured I'd give it a go.

our PJ pants and spirograph party

Feeling inspired (and a little nostalgic) by this display, yesterday when out at my parents we unearthed the spirograph kit. Poor thing hadn't seen the light of day in years. Seriously, it was wedged so far back in the game cabinet it nearly caused an avalanche retrieving the box. After Isannah conquered the cabinet and the colored pencils were sharpened down to needles we were good to go.

swanky swig

I found this little cup at a vintage store and after looking at it for a few seconds that adorable deer weaseled his way into my heart.
I did a bit of sleuthing and apparently it's part of a line of kids juice cups from the 1950s called Kiddie Kups (clever, clever). The cups also fall into a larger, looser category known as Swanky Swig glass. Who knew?

If you want to know more, this article was particularly helpful: Collecting Not-So-Swanky Swanky Swigs

The ring of white animals around the top is my favorite part. So PRECIOUS!
Guess I now have another thing to look for while I'm thrifting ;)

First vlog! Your name is whaaaa?

Alright. So I decided to give vlogging a go. I felt like such a GOON.
And I forgot to mention that Shakti means "powerful" - fyi.

I didn't realize how long my hair has gotten until I watched this. I think it went through a growth spurt. Caused by the massive amount of avocados I've been eating lately. Yes?

HELP! 1) what video editing software should I use? 2) how does one center a vimeo video without using the massive black box behind the video?

Random snaps

1) Spontaneous midnight date to IHOP for stuffed French toast with strawberries!
What a great hubby I have.

2) Old keys from apartments we no longer live in and cars we no longer own. I'm not really sure why we keep them. Suppose it's because they hold random memories, even if we can't remember what they went too.

3) Plaid socks, flannel pjs, and original hexie bathroom floor tiles. Three simple delights.

4) Bowl full of homemade chocolate chip cookie dough made for the sole purpose of being eaten raw :D

5) Some of my families gadgets.

6) A couple posts ago I mentioned a shoe snitcher. There she is, looking all innocent.
Good thing I love her a lot.
